A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, AND IF AWARDED,

ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000, OR OTHERWISE AWARDED, FROM THE

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES WITH A LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENT THAT

WILL COME FROM THE SPLOST FUNDS ALREADY ALLOCATED FOR THIS PROJECT; AND TO

AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE APPLICABLE AMOUNT.



WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation administers programs

and grants for the benefit of the city and our community members and is

instrumental in the completion of the Riverwalk trail; and,



WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation would like to utilize

the proposed funds to augment the cost of signage and trash receptacles along

the Columbus Multi Use Bike and Pedestrian Trail; and,



WHEREAS, the City of Columbus provides viable connections to other

trails, greenways, scenic corridors, natural and recreational areas in around

our parks; and,



WHEREAS, the need for funding to expand current and future trail

programs is needed, providing an opportunity for tourism expansion with the

promise of a positive impact on our economy, vital to the health and well-being

of all citizens.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS

FOLLOWS:



That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit an

application and if approved, accept funds from the Georgia Department of

Natural Resources to offset costs of the 6.37 mile Phase I bikeway and

pedestrian trail that is funded through a SPLOST to place trash receptacles and

signage along the trail for $100,000, or otherwise awarded, and to amend the

Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount of the grant awarded.



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia,

held this __________ day of ____________________, 2006, and adopted at said

meeting by the affirmative vote of _______ members of said Council.
