MINUTES OF THE MEETING

THE ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD
The ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD met TUESDAY, September 13, 2011, at 2:30 P.M.
at the Animal Care & Control Center.

CALL TO ORDER
Kathy McCarley called the meeting to order at 2:35 P.M.
Kathy McCarley presented the minutes of the last meeting; Daniel Smith moved
they be approved as written; Jean McKee seconded; approval was unanimous.
Kathy McCarley introduced Deputy City Manager Lisa Goodwin to the board and
each board member introduced themselves.
Lisa Goodwin gave a presentation on the ?Save-A-Pet? program. She informed the
board that the ?Save-A-Pet? program should decrease the number of animals
euthanized each year. This program will be presented to council.
She informed the board on the CCG Adoptable Pet Program.
Bob Robins gave suggestions on the volunteer training.
Ron Smith stated that cat colonies needs to be put on the city?s GIS Map.
The board discussed the adoption of an ordinance that would allow our officers
to enforce the spay/neuter law.
Daniel Smith asked about the ordinance that states two council members hold a
seat on the Animal Control Advisory Board.
Lisa Goodwin informed the board that it will be moved on and an ordinance
change may be made.
Bob Robins informed the board on the possibility of a special fund set up in
memory of Frances Steed for spay/neuter.
Kathy McCarley informed the board that it has been presented by Carman Cavezza
to rename the Animal Control Center after Frances Steed.
Lisa Goodwin stated that Councilman Allen called for a resolution to rename the
Animal Control Center.
Chris Brown moved that we adopt the ?Save-A-Pet? Program; Daniel Smith
seconded; approval was unanimous.
The board discussed the Parvo Virus with Dr. Seward. Dr. Seward informed the
board how the virus infects and gave actions that could protect other animals
in the center from the virus. Dr. Seward stated that she was going to send her
release vet to work with the animal control staff and volunteers to help
identify and protect against the Parvo Virus.
The board discussed the CCG program to Adopt-A-Pet and suggested a veterinarian
appear on the show for information and education.
The board discussed Micro Chip Scanners. Cathy McCarley informed the board
that there is a chance that the scanners can miss a chip if the chip has moved
or is not compatible with the scanner. The Vets agree that the Home-Again
Scanner used by the Animal Control Center is one of the best used.
Kathy McCarley adjourned the meeting at 3:45 P.M.
