MINUTES # 25-07





The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, June 20, 2007,

at 2:00PM with, Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Lawton Grantham and Pat

Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton. Assessors

Richard Stallings and Ann Grantham were absent.



Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to approve Minutes #24-07, Assessor Lawton

Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously



The Board reviewed the information submitted regarding Parcel ID 015 027 007.

Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion to deny the tax exempt status because

of non-qualifying use; Assessor William Braxton seconded the motion, motion

carried.



Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to grant non-taxability for Parcel ID 050 039

010 for 2007; Assessor Lawton Grantham seconded the motion; motion carried.



The Board reviewed the requests for non-taxability for Parcels ID 004 016 009

and 004 017 004. Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to grant non-taxability for

2007; Assessor William Braxton seconded the motion; motion carried.



The Board signed a settlement agreement for personal property accounts #

00592301 and 03959701 for 2006.



The Board received a Voluntary Dismissal for personal property account #

05511101 for tax year 2001 and personal property account # 06195701 for tax

year 2002.



Mrs. Meadows representing the Tax Commissioner?s Office appeared before the

Board concerning the removal of homestead exemption for Parcel ID 148 002 008H.

Mrs. Meadows gave the Board a brief overview why the Tax Commissioner?s Office

removed the homestead exemption.



Met with Mr. Watkins regarding the removal of homestead exemption for Parcel

ID 148 002 008H. Mr. Watkins told the Board he purchased a house on the

backwaters to renovate and resell. He said he is divorced and due to the

logistics he decided to move into the house while he was renovating it. He said

he had his mail transferred and at the suggestion of a friend purchased his car

tag in Harris County. Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion that subject to

Mr. Watkins purchasing a 2007 car tag in Muscogee County, paying penalties and

fines associated with the Harris County tag purchase, and provide the proof to

the Board, his homestead will be reinstated. Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the

motion; motion carried.

The Board met with Com Div Chief Linda King for a briefing regarding meeting

with Mr. Sprouse with the Development Authority.



Met with Attorney Ed Sprouse and Mrs. Becca Hardin representing the Development

Authority of Columbus. Mr. Sprouse stated that Parcel ID 072 017 001 was

transferring their leasehold interest to another entity and is requesting that

the new assignee be granted the same tax abatement enjoyed by the current

lessee. After lengthy discussion, Mr. Sprouse requested a meeting for next week

to continue their discussion.
