The Board of Elections and Voter Registration Meeting was held July 6, 2006 at
2:00 p.m.

The Board Meeting was called to order by the chairperson, Mr. Walter J. Wright,
Jr.
A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the June Board
meeting. Vote was unanimous.
S Y N 0 P S I S
COMMENTS: The Director gave the Board an update on the pollworker training.
The last training class with be held July 7, 2006. A total of 500 workers have
attended the classes. ID badges of each poll worker has been made. The
process for advance voting is being done. The Library hours will be from 9:30
a.m. until 4:30 p.m., the hours at the elections office will be 8:30 a.m. until
4:30 p.m. July 10th through July 14th.
NEW BUSINESS: The qualifying of the candidates for the November General
Election was completed June 30, 2006. The qualifying forms were verified that
each candidate is a registered voter in Muscogee County, resides in the
District for which they are seeking office, and also residents for the
prescribed amount of time.
The Director told the Board that two of the candidates have issues that the
Board may want to address. The two candidates are:
Geraldine Hollis ? Not able to locate this candidate on the voter registration
file who qualified for Council District 1. By cross referencing, attempted to
locate by address. The Board was reminded of the process to challenge a
candidate for office. A motion was made and seconded to mail a certified
letter to Mrs. Hollis giving her the date and time of a hearing to be held so
that she can appear before the board. It was decided to hold a hearing on July
21, 2006 at 4:00 p.m.
Charles Michael Weaver ? State Police Senior Investigator for Juvenile
Justice. It was questioned as to whether a State employee can seek office.
The Board asked that an inquiry be made concerning the laws for candidacy of a
local office.
Mr. William J. Wright ? Attorney. The Board of Elections needs additional
information in order to determine Mr. Wright?s eligibility for office because
of being delinquent on taxes.
NOMINATION OF REVIEW PANEL: The Director informed the Board that a nomination
is needed for the vote review panel. The Democratic and Republican Parties
will appoint someone to represent the parties. The Review Panel oversees the
opening of the absentee ballots. A motion was made to nominate Mr. Kevin Early
as the representative from the board. Vote was unanimous
URBAN LEAGUE: After discussion, the Board determined that they do not have any
authority to interfere with the transporting of voters to the polls. If
campaign laws are broken then the Board would intervene.
OLD BUSINESS:
Three attempts of delivery have been made to contact Mr. Roy Croom concerning
his eligibility to remain on the Voter Registration list. Registered letters
were mailed May 27th, June 2nd and June 12, 2006. No response at any time.
Motion was made and seconded to remove Mr. Croom from the Muscogee County voter
registration file. Vote was unanimous.
Being no further business to discuss, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn
the meeting. Vote was unanimous.
