Response 27 Oct 2006 - On Oct 19 we placed speed counters on 17th Ave at 2
different locations (2320 and 2508 17th Ave). At one location 51% of the
vehicles are going over the posted speed limit and at the other location 67% of
the vehicles are exceeding the posted speed limit respectively. However, the
mean speed is 32 mph and 29 mph at the 2 locations. The 85th percentile speed
is 38 mph & 36 mph.
There are vehicles that are traveling 10 mph above the posted speed limit of 30
mph with some going up to 60 mph but these vehicles number less than 10
vehicles out of the more than 8,000 counted. My recommendation is to increase
enforcement in the area and / or to place the portable speed sign in the area
to alert drivers of their speed.
