Response 03/26/07 - DOT has forwarded to us the comments they received from the
January 25, 2007 public meeting on the sound barriers for St. Mary's Road. At
first glance it would appear that there is about a 60/40 response in favor of
the barriers. However, a closer examination shows that a overwhelming number
actually support the project - 31 in favor, 7 conditionally, and 3 against.
Part of the problem with this survey is the question, which reads "Do you
support the complete or partial removal of any noise barrier proposed?". Those
answering "yes" thought they were supporting the effort to keep the barriers
(their answers indicate such action), while most of those voting "no" where
answering the question as proposed and were indicating their support for the
project (again their comments show support for the project.
Only three of the responses actually indicate a problem with the barriers. A
copy of the responses are attached for your review.
