Agenda Item # 3
Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
05/08/2018
Agenda Report # 116
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Sidewalk Variance- 6970 Jamesson Way
INITIATED BY: Department of Engineering
Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize a variance to City
Code Section 7.10.1 for the development at 6970 Jamesson Way to allow the
sidewalk construction be delayed until sidewalk is extended into the area.
Background: Fuller Fire & Safety is constructing a new facility at the
intersection of Jamesson Road and Jamesson Way. Jamesson Road and Flat Rock
Road was constructed as rural roads with open ditches and no curb and gutter.
Section 7.10.1 of the UDO exempts sidewalk on developments with rural road
designs thus there was no sidewalk installed on Jamesson Road. Jamesson Way is
a cul-de-sac that is an urban design, curb and gutter, street off Jamesson Road.
Analysis: With no sidewalk along Jamesson Road or Flat Rock Road there would
be no connectivity for this site. The closest sidewalk is approximately 1800
ft. from the site at the McDonald's location which has sidewalk only along its
frontage on Flat Rock Court.
Financial Considerations: There are no financial impacts to the City.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: If sidewalk were installed, the
Department of Public Works would take over maintenance after the initial
installation.
Legal Considerations: A variance to the City Ordinances involving right of way
requires Council approval.
Recommendations/Actions: Approval is requested to authorize a variance to City
Code Section 7.10.1 for the development at 6970 Jamesson Way to allow the
sidewalk construction be delayed until sidewalk is extended into the area.
