Creek Golf Course. Members present were Nancy Wilkeson, Richard Hagler, Rev.
Hill, Floyd Washington, Aubry Burt, Rudy Allen, Rhudine Nelson, Michael
Silverstein and Carl Williams. Staff member present was John Milam.

made by Aubry Burt and seconded by Rev. Hill.
Old Business
None.
New Business
Mr. Milan reported that a golfer at Oxbow Creek had a heart attack and passed
away today while playing golf. Tyler used the defibrillator and was
unsuccessful on the 70 year old man from Phenix City.
Mr. Milan passed out the written report, dated August 4, 2008, from Mr. Patrick
O?Brien from the USGA Southeast Region Green Section. Mr. Milam highlighted
one point, that Bull Creek needs out-front brush attachments for the triplex
mowers ($1800 per mower for 6 mowers) to help with the swirling grain on the
putting greens. Mr. Milam will look into an alternative method for controlling
the swirling.
Superintendent Report by John Milam
Steve Brown has increased the height of the greens and fairway mowers. The
greens are top-dressed weekly. The tees, old practice green and old chipping
green will be over seeded. Dead tree removal, bunker work and sod work will
begin.
Godwin Creek
The First Tee held six summer camps with approximately 220 participants and a
27% scholarship rate. Junior Varsity and Varsity matches are playing at five
local golf courses for the next six weeks. The First Tee classes have resumed.
Godwin Creek is in good condition. Maintenance costs have increases
significantly, and they have increased their fees to offset some of that cost.
Godwin Creek has raised daily fees and now offers a Junior Membership. So far
this year, $78,000 has been raised from 300 donors. Our chapter is no longer
eligible to receive any assistance from The First Tee or USGA. Mr. Milam will
call Nan Hopkins to see if the City can help with the installation of new
carpet and painting of the clubhouse.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek and Oxbow Creek revenues have increased from August compared to the
same time last year. The revenues through September 18th are slightly higher
at Oxbow Creek. Both courses year-to-date profits are significantly higher as
well. With Lakewood Golf Course in Phenix City re-opening, our revenue has not
dropped. Apparently, the Lakewood Golf Course is not in great shape after the
renovations were completed. These figures also include a four-day weekend wash
out.
Rhudine Nelson has made a phone call to Sanford Bishop?s office regarding the
allocated money for the additional nine holes at Oxbow Creek. Mr. Bishop will
return the call later in the month.
Michael Silverstein asked Mr. Milam about the stolen merchandise from the pro
shop at Bull Creek last weekend during an outing with Spencer High School. Two
golf bags, gloves, a visor and a Ping driver were stolen. One bag and visor
were returned when a golfer found the items in the bed of his truck in the
parking lot. A police report was made. Mr. Milam is looking into a
surveillance system for the pro shop and the gas pumping station.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:14 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
