SUBJECT: Donation for Columbus Police Department Informant Fund



INITIATED BY: Columbus Police Department





Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a donation given by an

anonymous donor for the Columbus Police Department.



Background: An anonymous donor has donated $10,000 to the Columbus Police

Department for the purpose of establishing an informant fund to assist in

clearing cases.



Analysis: The Informant Fund will be maintained by the Investigative Services

Division, who will establish a formal procedure by which payments will be made

to informants. The fund will be audited by the Chief of Police and his Budget

Office on a regular basis.



Financial Considerations: This will be at no cost to the City as it is a

private donation.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None is expected.



Legal Considerations: Council must approve the acceptance of this donation



Recommendations/Actions: Approval is requested to accept the donation in the

amount of $10,000.00 to be used towards the establishment of an Informant Fund

within the Columbus Police Department.







A RESOLUTION

NO. _____

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPROVE AND ACCEPT THE DONATION OF $10,000

FROM AN ANONYMOUS DONOR TO BE USED AS AN INFORMANT FUND FOR INVESTIGATIVE

SERVICES TO AID IN CLEARING CRIMES.



WHEREAS, an anonymous donor has donated $10,000 to Columbus Police Department

to establish an Informant Fund. The fund is intended to motivate the inflow of

information that will lead to apprehension of wanted persons or further case

investigations and convictions; and,



WHEREAS, an anonymous donor has donated this money for the exclusive use of the

Columbus Police Department to aid in their investigations or pursuits; and,

WHEREAS, an anonymous donor has donated this money and will be of no cost to

the City.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to accept $10,000

donated by an anonymous donor, and the Chief of Police with the assistance of

the Finance Department is authorized to establish and oversee an Informant Fund.
