SUBJECT: Acceptance of Sheriff's Quit Claim Deed - 921 Lawyers Lane
INITIATED BY: Department of Community Reinvestment
Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a property located at 921
Lawyers Lane, a/k/a 050 001 007, Parcel A, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia
obtained through a bond forfeiture by the Sheriff's Office. (see attachment)
Background: The property located at 921 Lawyers Lane was transferred to the
Sheriff's Office as part of a bond forfeiture. Sheriff Darr desires to Quit
Claimed the property to the ownership of the City.
Analysis: The property consists of a six unit apartment building located on
Neighborhood Commercial zoned property. The apartment is partially occupied at
this time. The status of these residents will be immediately addressed
through short term rental agreements until a final disposition of the property
is determined. Council must formally accept the transfer of the property to
the City.
Financial Considerations: The property is being received by the City at no
cost. The Sheriff has completed a Quit Claim deed transferring ownership to
the City, Council's acceptance is required prior to recording of the deed. The
acceptance of this property
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The property will no longer be on
the tax roll due to City ownership, Annual taxes are approximately $762.
Legal Considerations: Council should accept the transfer of the property.
Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize the City Manager to accept the transfer of
property located at 921 Lawyers Lane a/k/a 050 001 007 from the Sheriff through
the execution of a Quit Claim deed. ( see attachment)

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A SHERIFF'S QUIT CLAIM DEED FOR THE
PROPERTY LOCATED AT 921 LAWYERS LANE A/K/A TAX MAP 050 001 007 IN COLUMBUS,
MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GEORGIA.
WHEREAS, the Sheriff of Muscogee County transferred property to the City via a
Quit Claim Deed; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Columbus Consolidated Government to
accept the transfer of the property to the City of Columbus, Muscogee County,
Georgia; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia should accept the
transferred property.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept property located at 921
Lawyers Lane transferred to the City by Quit Claim Deed from the Muscogee
Sheriff's Office. a/k/a Tax Map 050 001 007.
