Old Business
No old business.
New Business
Nancy Wilkeson asked if it is feasible to allow handicap golfers to get closer
to the greens ?pass the red line? to speed up play. Green Island Country Club
allows handicap members close access to their greens. Richard Hagler stated
that Green Island has opened a can of worms and will probably restrict this
practice in the very near future. Mr. Milam pointed out that according to the
Justice Department, if the golf carts do damage to the fairways, the golf
course has a legal right to restrict there usage to cart path only.
Aflac has begun their league play (approximately 100 golfers) taking the entire
West Course on Monday afternoon. The high school league continues their play (9
holes on the East Course) on Monday afternoon as well, and the coach and the
last team to tee off would like the courtesy of not having open play right
behind them. Mr. Milam will look into this matter.
Superintendent Report by Steve Brown
Bull Creek has received 9.23 inches of rain since the last Authority meeting.
Most of the flood damage has been cleaned up except for the bank on 3 East
(need to dig out the creek of silt).
Maintenance completed the installation of the septic tank. The grease trap has
not been installed. The range building, bathrooms on the course, trash cans
and signs have been repainted.
The spraying of pre-emergence herbicide on the fairways should be completed by
next week. The fairways have been cut at ??; Steve would like to raise the
height to 1?. The price for fertilizer is a few dollars cheaper this year.
The height of the greens mowers has been lowered. Steve would like to lower
them again, but will wait a few more weeks to make sure there is not another
frost. The entire East course greens and the front 9 greens of the West Course
have been dusted. Steve will try to finish the back nine holes before the rain
comes later this week.
Mr. Patrick O?Brien, USGA agronomist, will visit the course on April 13th and
August 10th this year. We will have two half-day visits instead of the usual
one-day visit. Steve Brown and Patrick O?Brien will determine if the course
can get by with only one aerification.
Godwin Creek
Mr. Milam has spoken to Nan Hopkins and reports that the First Tee is
struggling. If it is possible, Bull Creek will help them maintain the course.
A tournament is planned in the future to raise funds for The First Tee.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek and Oxbow Creek revenues are down in February compared to the same
time last year. Both courses lost revenue due to the snow and rain. Oxbow
Creek received a general fund transfer of $150,000 in February 2009. Bull
Creek?s expenses are down compared to the same time last year. A tournament is
scheduled this Friday at Bull Creek and will help boost revenues.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:11 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
