RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Frances K. Steed, Supervisor of the Animal Care & Shelter Section died
on August 25, 2011;
WHEREAS, ?Ms. Frances? served the citizens of Columbus for 25 years and worked
as a great friend to thousands of homeless animals during her tenure with the
Consolidated Government;
WHEREAS, she was born in Runcorn, England in 1934, but loved Columbus and was a
life long resident of our community;
WHEREAS, she was a strong supporter of the 1999 Special Purpose Local Option
Sales Tax which included funding for a new animal control facility;
WHEREAS, Ms. Steed was a fierce advocate for animal adoption in Columbus
through PAWS Humane;
WHEREAS, Ms. Frances K. Steed is survived by her daughter, Kathy McCarley of
Box Springs; two sons, Tommy Steed of Spartanburg, S.C., and Bart Steed of
Columbus; a sister, Dora Motos of Columbus, five grandchildren, four great
grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Ms. Frances K. Steed. Her service to the Columbus community and her love of
animals will long be remembered. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
the family of Ms. Frances K. Steed.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the
27th day of September, 2011, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
