Columbus Consolidated Government
MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 25, 2006
TO: Isaiah Hugley, City Manager
FROM: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: NORTHERN LITTLE LEAGUE CELEBRATION
_____________________________________________________________
I met this afternoon with Curt Thomas, League President, Alan McMullen, League
Board Member, Tony Adams, Tommy Groce, Janice Davis, Dale Hester, Chief Myers,
Sgt. Lockett, CPD, Jerry Chandler, and a School District Representative.
The celebration planned will begin with State Troopers motorcade escorting the
team via limousines & vans from Atlanta Hartsfield into Columbus at which time
CPD will take the lead with a blue light escort to the Civic Center. We are
planning to have the event on Tuesday at 4PM since the team may very well be on
Good Morning America on Monday or early Tuesday morning. Curt will let us know
on Saturday, not later than Sunday if anything changes that will affect our
schedule. If so, it will be planned for Wednesday afternoon.
The motorcade will drive directly onto the floor of the Civic Center. The team
and coaches will take the stage and VIP's will be seated on the floor, but not
the stage. We want the attention to be on our champion team only!!! We will
have music playing as they enter, 'We are the Champions' and scenes of the game
playing on large screens. The route will be advertised via the media so that
businesses and well wishers can be stationed along the route with banners,
balloons etc. as the motorcade passes through. We will have a brief program,
with the Mayor, League President, and others offering congratulatory remarks.
The league will also ensure that those corporations and individuals that
provided sponsorship for the trip are recognized and on hand. Will look to get
Chuck Leonard as the MC for the celebration.
I've spoken with the Mayor?s Office about the Mayor presenting each player with
a mayoral coin during the celebration. This has been confirmed. We are
looking to have goody bags provided to each member and Tony will be working on
getting some banners donated to place as they enter the Civic Center and on the

inside. Baseballs will be donated and baseball cards or other pictures will be
made available of each player so that they can sign at the conclusion of the
celebration to give out to those in attendance. Each will have a table set up
in the hospitality room with a supply of each of these. Dale is working on
fireworks and a few other things. The MCSD will have cheerleaders, bands and
other clubs on hand as well.
Everyone was extremely excited about being a part of this celebration and
expressed how appreciative they know the team will be. We are really pushing
for Tuesday, so that the kids, although will be extremely tired, can get it all
over with instead of having to miss school any further by having it on
Wednesday. The kids have not even started school yet, so we are taking that
into account. Would like to brief the media on Monday of our plans since they
will play a large role in making this happen and getting the crowds out. Will
keep you updated as we progress.
