Agenda Item # 2
Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
November 10, 2015
Agenda Report # 46
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Lease Agreement ? 1000 Victory Drive
INITIATED BY: Laura McCool, Community Reinvestment Division Manager
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a lease agreement with the
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to lease the building at 1000 Victory Drive
for $1 per year for a period of five (5) years.
Background: The City owns the property located at 1000 Victory Drive. It has
been leased for many years by the Chattahoochee Valley Veterans Council (CVVC)
as a Veterans Welcome Center for $1 per year. The CVVC has decided not to renew
the lease that expires on December 31, 2015. The City was contacted by the DAV,
which is also housed at this location, requesting to lease the building with
the current lease terms.
Analysis: If the City does not lease the building to the DAV, it will become
vacant. It would be in the best interest of the City to keep the building
occupied. The City will also we assisting veterans in the community by allowing
them to utilize this facility. The tenant will be responsible for maintenance
of the building, utilities, and must obtain liability insurance.
Financial Considerations: There will be no cost burden to the City. The
tenant will be responsible for all maintenance and utilities, and will be
required to maintain liability insurance.
Legal Considerations: Any lease agreement involving this City requires Council
approval.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the Resolution authorizing the City Manager
to enter into a Lease agreement with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to
lease the building at 1000 Victory Drive for $1 per year for a period of five
(5) years.
