MINUTES # 07-11
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, February 28, 2011 at
9:00AM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham, Assessor Pat
Hunter, Assessor Derrick Shields and Assessor Scott Boyce present. Also present
was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#06-11. Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board reviewed and approved the following VA letters of application for VA
homestead exemptions for 2011:
Ferguson 064 011 013
Whitehead 096 027 045
Met with Attorney Randy Lomax to discuss pending litigation.
Met with Residential Division Manager Bob O?Brien to discuss pending
litigation. After discussion concerning values at the time when litigation was
filed and the circumstances involved, Assessor Derrick Shields made a motion to
request our attorney to withdraw (dismiss) the case; Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded it, motion carried.
Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:

Multiple Year Map Splits: 2
2011 Map Splits: 2
Com Div Mgr Linda King discussed with the Board that parcel Id 185 005 002 has
been certified to the Board of Equalization and the owner submitted new
information for consideration. The new information will result in a lower
valuation and with the new recommended adjustment to the value the taxpayer
will withdraw the appeal. Assessor Derrick Shields made a motion to place a
value of $338,800 on the property; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion;
motion carried.

Met with Personal Property Division Manager Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved
the following:
Assessment Corrections: 4(-)
Approval of Freeport Applications Only: 3
Pers Prop Div Mgr Oliver Juhan updated the Board of the personal property
division?s production report as of Feb 25, 2011.
Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton and the Board discussed an internal problem and
worked on a solution.
