A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, on January 1, 2009, Honorable John D. Allen became the first
African-American Chief Judge of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit;
WHEREAS, Judge Allen graduated from Tuskegee University in 1966 and
served as a fighter pilot for seven years in the military;
WHEREAS, he attended University of Florida Law School and graduated one year
early;
WHEREAS, he practiced law in Columbus, Georgia as a partner of Judge Bobby
Peters and became the first African-
American State Court Judge when a new judgeship was created;
WHEREAS, he began service on the Superior Court bench in 1993 and has served
continuously until his recent appointment;
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Chief Judge John D. Allen are worthy of special
recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Judge John D. Allen upon his appointment as
Chief Judge of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit. Columbus is truly proud of
Judge Allen and his record of service to his country, the State of Georgia and
the Columbus community. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief
Judge John D. Allen.
