Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Memorandum
TO: Mayor and Councilors DATE: 12/03/2013
THRU: Isaiah Hugley, City Manager
FROM: David Arrington, Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: 2014 Local Maintenance Improvement Grant Request
Attached below for Council's review and comments is a list of proposed local
transportation improvements to be submitted to the Georgia Department of
Transportation for the 2014 Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG) for
Columbus. Based on Council's comments, staff plans to submit the request to
GADOT on or about December 11, 2013.
The proposed projects will supplement the City's regular resurfacing program
and fully fund one of the four bridge/culverts in need of replacement. The
City anticipates receipt of approximately $1.2 million for transportation
improvements through this grant. The grant requires a 10% match which will
bring our project total to approximately $1.32 million for all projects
submitted.
Under the new guidelines for LMIG, the City will receive a check for the
awarded amount in advance of the work being completed. This approach will
prevent the City from having to advance the funds for the projects and wait on
reimbursement from DOT. The proposed work is scheduled for Spring/Summer 2014.
If you have any questions or comments concerning the list, please let me know.
