Subject: U. S Conference of Mayor?s Grant



Initiated By: Workforce Investment Act (WIA)





Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept funds from the U. S.

Conference of Mayor?s for ?Dollarwise ? Summer Youth Campaign 2012? on behalf

of Turnaround Columbus (TAC), to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the

amount of the grant awarded, and to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with

TAC. The grant amount requested is $4,000.00, or otherwise awarded, to be used

to expand TAC?s existing financial education components.



Background: The U. S. Conference of Mayor?s is interested in financial

literacy for youth. This campaign was launched in the summer of 2009 with the

goal of encouraging mayors across the country to incorporate financial

education into their cities? Summer Youth Employment Programs.



Analysis: The funding from this grant will allow TAC to focus on providing

youth with training on how to start a business.



Financial Considerations: The grant amount is $4,000.00 for the WIA Department

to act as the administrator for TAC. The City is not required to provide

matching funds to participate in this grant.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: There will be no fiscal annual

impact from this

Action.



Legal Considerations: Council?s approval is necessary in order to accept this

grant on behalf of the City and execute a Memorandum of Understanding to

implement the proposed program.



Recommendation: Approval is requested for the acceptance of a $4,000 grant

from the U. S. Conference of Mayor?s for ?Dollarwise ? Summer Youth Campaign

2012? with no local match.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF

$4,000.00, OR OTHERWISE AWARDED, FROM THE U. S. CONFERENCE OF MAYOR?S NO LOCAL

MATCH, TO AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE APPLICABLE AMOUNT, AND TO

EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH TURNAROUND COLUMBUS (TAC).



WHEREAS, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Department administers

programs for the community which offer financial education to youth during the

summer; and,



WHEREAS, the WIA Department has expressed a willingness to administer

the U. S. Conference of Mayor?s Dollarwise-Summer Youth Campaign 2012 Grant

which has been awarded for a program of TAC; and,



WHEREAS, the WIA Department will partner with TAC through an MOU.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS

FOLLOWS:



That the Mayor, City Manager or designee is hereby authorized to,

accept funds from the U. S. Conference of Mayor?s for the ?Dollarwise Summer

Youth Campaign 2012? grant to expand the financial education for youth for TAC

for $4,000.00, or otherwise awarded, to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by

the amount of the grant awarded and to execute a MOU with Turnaround Columbus.
