A RESOLUTION

No. ________



WHEREAS, public transportation is making a real difference in the daily lives

of individuals and households in Columbus, Georgia; and,



WHEREAS, public transportation is vital to the quality of life and economic

well-being of all citizens of Columbus, Georgia; and,



WHEREAS, workers, school children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities,

and those unable to afford an automobile use public transportation to gain

access to jobs, schools, medical facilities, and other fundamental services;

and,



WHEREAS, public transportation helps lead the nation toward its goals and

policies of protecting the environment, conserving energy, and providing for

the health, safety and security of its citizens; and,



WHEREAS, public transportation is the fabric of every community that enables

people from all walks of life to access opportunities that allow them to

accomplish what is important to them, making the community stronger and more

vibrant; and,



WHEREAS, METRA Transit System and local agencies have declared October 4, 2007

to be COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY and have called upon all citizens to join in a

nationwide effort to promote public transportation and other benefits in our

community.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



October 4, 2007, as COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY in Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia. I

call upon all citizens to support public transportation and COMMUNITIES IN

MOTION DAY, and to become more active in education and advocacy efforts to

promote the vital role that public transportation plays in shaping the fabric

of Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia and across the United States.

the 25th day of, September 2007, and adopted at said meeting by the

affirmative vote of members of said Council.
