A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Ms. Judy Nail, Director of the Arts and Humanities Program for the
Muscogee County School District for nearly seven years, will be retiring in
2007;
WHEREAS, she has been employed by the Muscogee County School District
since August 26, 1973 and worked as a teacher at Richards Jr. High School from
1973-1978 and as Cultural Arts Program Coordinator from 1978-2000;
WHEREAS, as Director of the Arts and Humanities Program, she supervises 110 art
and music teachers, art and music curriculum and inventory;
WHEREAS, she has worked closely with organizations such as the Columbus Museum,
the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Historic Columbus Foundation, RiverCenter for
the Performing Arts, Junior League of Columbus, the Liberty Theatre Cultural
Center and the Springer Theatre to bring the arts closer to our young people;
WHEREAS, she has served on numerous boards including the Columbus Cultural Arts
Alliance, the Education Committee of the Columbus Museum, Columbus State
University Music Education Program Advisory Council, the Columbus Symphony
Orchestra, the Georgia Arts Educators Association, the Georgia Humanities
Council, the Liberty Theatre Cultural Center and the Artist-in-Education
Planning Committee of the National Endowment for the Arts;
WHEREAS, she has been recognized by the National League of American Pen Women
and received their 2006 Woman of Achievement Award, and has received the 2004
Historic Preservation Award from the Historic Columbus Foundation, the 1999
Children First Award from Martin Luther King Elementary School, the Exemplary
Ivey Award from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Governor?s Award in the
Humanities.
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Ms. Judy Nail, Director of the Arts and
Humanities Program for the Muscogee County School District, are worthy of
special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Judy Nail, Director of the Arts and
Humanities Program for the Muscogee County School District upon her retirement
after a distinguished career in education. Her contributions to the arts and
education in the Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of this
resolution be forwarded to Ms. Judy Nail.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
6th day of February, 2007, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
