A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, a veteran of military service is someone who has honorably served in
one of the branches of the United States Armed Forces;
WHEREAS, throughout the history of this great country, veterans, by their
service have helped maintain the precious freedoms we all enjoy;
WHEREAS, honorable military service is one of the highest contributions anyone
can make to our country;
WHEREAS, Columbus Georgia is fortunate to have a large veteran population;
WHEREAS, the citizens of Columbus, Georgia greatly appreciate the service our
veterans rendered;
WHEREAS, City Councilor Jerry ?Pops? Barnes conceived the idea to have an
annual Veterans Day Parade to be held on the second Saturday in November;
WHEREAS, the first annual Veterans Day Parade will be held on Saturday,
November 14th, 2009;
WHEREAS, Councilor Barnes, Col. Sam Nelson, Sallie Nelson and a group of
veterans dedicated themselves to making this parade a reality;
WHEREAS, all the veterans of Columbus, Georgia are worthy of special
recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate all veterans upon serving and protecting
this country for our freedom. Columbus is proud of each and every United States
Armed Forces branch. Let a copy of this resolution be presented to City
Councilor Jerry ?Pops? Barnes, American Legion Post 267 Commander Eddie
Saffold, American Legion Post 323 Col. Sam Nelson, Mrs. Sallie Nelson, American
Legion Post 35 Commander Jerry Newman and Col. Reginald Pugh.

10th day of November, 2009, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
