COUNCIL MEETING OF JULY 8, 2014





TO THE CITY MANAGER:



3RD ARMOR BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM:

Request for information to be provided on CCG-TV as well as the CCG website

encouraging the citizens to contact their congressional representatives to

oppose the elimination of the 3rd Armor Brigade Combat Team from Fort Benning.

RESPONSE:

City Manager's Staff is working with the City Attorney on language that can be

used for a public service announcement on CCG-TV.

WORKING SPOUSE EXCLUSION:

Provide information on all options available to cover the spousal cost.

(Request of Councilor Davis)



Provide a copy of the information, suggestions, as well as the options

presented by Internal Auditor John Redmond with regards to the working spouse

coverage. (Request of Councilor Allen)



Provide a report outlining the affects these options would have on the other

plans. (Request of Mayor Tomlinson)



During this discussion, Human Resources Director Hollowell showed a worksheet

with the Health Plan Premiums and Health Plan Benefit Levels that will be

effective as of January 1, 2015. A request for this worksheet to be provided

to Council via email and mail packets was made. (Request of Mayor Tomlinson)

DILLINGHAM STREET BRIDGE BIKE LANES:

Due to an article in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer on the safety concerns of

citizens for the bicycle lane on the Dillingham Street Bridge, there was a

request for information on what has and what is going to be done to handle this

issue. It was also suggested that staff have discussions with experienced

bicyclists and to drive on the bridge while bicyclists are present so that they

may get a full idea of the safety issue. (Request of Councilor Thomas)



In addition, have staff to look into 10- foot lanes and protected lanes, as

well as, check with other cities that have implemented these and how has it

worked for them. (Request of Mayor Tomlinson)



RESPONSE:

We are working on an enhancement to the bike lanes on Dillingham Street

Bridge. A conference call was conducted with the consultant and a plan is

being developed to enhance safety. The plan will be presented to Council

either later this month or early August.

CIVIC CENTER:

Provide information/update on the status of the Civic Center?s Food and

Beverage Contract with there being upcoming scheduled events. (Request of

Councilor Thomas)



RESPONSE:

Information on the status of scheduled events through the summer and an outline

on how food/beverage will be provided for these events will be listed on the

July 29, 2014, Council Work Session Agenda.

FARR ROAD:

Have staff determine the date for which Farr Road is to be restriped due to

citizens? complaints on the safety of the road after they have been repaved.

RESPONSE:

This road is on the list to be restriped. The contractors are scheduling the

work. We have asked them to install some temporary striping in the next week

until they can get the more permanent striping scheduled in approximately 3-4

weeks.

FARRFIELD MANOR:

There have been complaints on the trees and shrubbery surrounding the entrance

to Farrfield Manor with motorist having limited vision exiting the manor.

RESPONSE:

The Right of Way Division pruned all trees and shrubbery surrounding entrance

to Farrfield Manor on Wednesday,

July 9, 2014.

ABANDONED DWELLINGS:

Have staff provide the CCG policy on abandoned dwellings; particularly, in

situations where the dwelling has drug activity occurring on the premises.

INSPECTIONS & CODE ENFORCEMENT:

The article in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer was brought up to Council and it

was requested that the issue surrounding the Inspections & Code Enforcement

employees be on the agenda for the July Council Work Session. (Request of

Councilor Allen)



RESPONSE:

This item will be listed on Council Work Session Agenda List for discussion on

July 29, 2014.
