SUBJECT: Columbus Umpires Association



INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation





Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize the use of Columbus Umpires

Association as a vendor for officiating games with the Parks and Recreation

Department.



Background: Columbus Umpires Association is the only ASA sanctioned umpires

association within a close enough proximity to Columbus to officiate games five

nights per week.



Analysis: The Parks and Recreation Department needs approval to utilize

Columbus Umpires Association for all athletic events held within the department.



Financial Considerations: The current cost is $23.00 per umpire per game for

adult league softball and $24.00 per game for senior league softball. This

amount changes with trends in the industry and approval is needed to increase

that payment as invoiced by Columbus Umpires Association. These costs are

factored into the user fees to have a team in the league.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: Umpire costs as it relates to the

Athletic Division.



Legal Considerations: Council must approve the usage of Columbus Umpires

Association and the fees associated therewith.



Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the use of Columbus Umpires Association as

the vendor for officiating games for Parks and Recreation and the costs

associated therewith.





A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPROVE THE USE OF COLUMBUS

UMPIRES ASSOCIATION AS A VENDOR FOR OFFICIATING GAMES WITHIN THE PARKS AND

RECREATION DEPARTMENT.

WHEREAS, Columbus Umpires Association is the only ASA sanctioned umpires

association within a close enough proximity to Columbus to officiate games five

nights per week, and;

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department needs approval to utilize Columbus

Umpires Association for all athletic events held within the department as a

sole source vendor, and;



WHEREAS, the current cost is $23.00 per umpire per game for adult league

softball and $24.00 per game for senior league softball. This amount changes

with trends in the industry and approval is needed to increase that payment as

invoiced by Columbus Umpires Association. These costs are factored into the

user fees to have a team in the league.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has approval to use Columbus

Umpires Association as the vendor for officiating games within the department.
