SUBJECT: Veterans Treatment Court Grant



INITIATED BY: Superior Court





Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application, and if

approved, accept funds from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the

operation of the Muscogee County Veterans Treatment Court, from July 1, 2013 to

June 30, 2014 and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount awarded.



Background: The State of Georgia is providing grants through the Criminal

Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to fund Accountability Courts. These funds

are to be utilized to operate the court in FY14.



Analysis: The Muscogee County Veterans Treatment Court is requesting a grant

of $156,535 from the CJCC to operate the Veterans Treatment Court for a period

of 12 months.



Financial Considerations: There is a 10% In-Kind match to participate in this

grant program that will be handled by Muscogee County Veterans Treatment Court.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The Columbus Consolidated Government

is not obligated to continue this program once grant funds have been expended.



Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to

apply for funds from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council



Recommendations/ Actions: Approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to

submit a grant application for $156,535.00 and if approved, accept funds from

the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the operation of the Muscogee

County Veterans Treatment Court with Judge Allen, from July 1, 2013 to June 30,

2014 and amend the Multi-governmental Fund by the amount awarded.









A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE

CRIMINAL JUSTICE COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR A GRANT TO FUND THE MUSCOGEE COUNTY

VETERANS' COURT AND IF AWARDED, ACCEPT $156,535.00 TO PROVIDE FUNDING FROM

JULY 1, 2013 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2014 WITH A 10% In KIND LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENT

AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY AMOUNT AWARDED.

WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the Criminal Justice Coordinating

Council to the Muscogee County Veterans Treatment Court for a 12 month period

from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014; and,

WHEREAS, funds are being made available to provide support for the operation of

the Muscogee County Veterans Treatment Court with Judge Allen for FY14; and,

WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the State to the CJCC to fund

Accountability Courts in the State of Georgia and the CJCC is accepting

applications from Accountability Courts throughout the State of Georgia; and,

WHEREAS, the Muscogee County Veteran Court requests a provision of 10% In-kind

local match; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application for

a grant to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to fund the Muscogee

County Veteran Treatment Court and if awarded accept $156,535to provide funding

from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014 with a 10% local In-kind match requirement

and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount awarded.
