MINUTES # 04-06



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, January 25,

2006, at 2:00PM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Richard Stallings,

Ann Grantham, and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Interim Chief Appraiser

Betty J. Middleton.



Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to approve Minutes # 03-06, Assessor Ann

Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



Hudson - 182 002 007

Rowley - 097 039 009

Burkhalter - 080 012 023

Perry - 079 011 026

Myers - 144 003 029 & 029H

Prater - 081 022 018

Hill - 189 003 012

Bradley - 132 013 007

Miller - 102 004 006

Met with Pastor and Mrs. Neil representing Alive with Christ Evangelistic

Ministries Inc. requesting non-taxability for Parcel ID 048 013 004 (2810

Dawson St). Pastor Neil said this property is the future site of the new

church. He said on January 1, 2006 they were in the process of preparing the

site for a new steel building for the church. The Board requested a field

review.



Mrs. Meadows representing the Tax Commissioner?s Office appeared regarding the

denial of homestead exemption for parcel ID 068 050 001 49 for 2006.



Met with Mr. Koppanyi regarding the denial of homestead exemption for his

property located at 2525 Norris Rd # 49 for the year 2006. Mr. Koppanyi said he

wants to file homestead exemption for his property, since he is legally

separated and lives at a different property location than his spouse. Assessor

Ann Grantham made the motion to deny the homestead exemption since Georgia Code

allows only one homestead exemption per family; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded

it, motion carried unanimously.

Met with Pastor Lee and Mrs. Bowman representing Promised Land Christian

Ministries, Inc. requesting non-taxability for parcel ID 063 003 008, 063 003

009 and 064 032 016. Pastor Lee and Mrs. Bowman said the properties located at

1470 and 1472 Ft. Benning Rd are used as a church and parking lot, the

property located at 1040 Benning Dr has been used for tent services and is the

future site for the church building. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Mr. Barrett regarding his personal property account # 06580601. Mr.

Barrett said his only assets were a desk, two chairs and his personal computer.

He said he opened his business license in 2003 but closed his business after a

couple of months. The Board requested Mr. Barrett to provide documentation from

the rental agent showing the office space was rented to a different occupant in

2005 and they may be able to help with the 2005 assessment as being double

assessed.



Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the

Met with Personal Property Chief Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved the

following:

The Board asked Pers Prop Div Chief Oliver Juhan to present the final values

for WC Bradley Co. to City Attorney Clifton Fay for settlement.
