SUBJECT: Donation of two exercise bikes to Gallops Senior Center
INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation
Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept one Sunny Health and Fitness
Indoor Cycling Bike and one Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Recumbent Bike
that will be purchased and donated by members of Gallops Seniors Center.
Background: Members of Gallops Senior Center have requested to spend
approximately $400.00 to purchase two exercise bikes for the center?s weight
room. Seniors can benefit tremendously from regular exercise. Seniors have
even more to gain than younger people by becoming more active because they are
at higher risk for the health problems that physical activity can prevent.
Analysis: Parks and Recreation is requesting to receive the two exercise bikes
purchased by the Gallops Senior Center Members to use in the center for all
participants.
Financial Considerations: This will be at no cost to the City as it is a
private donation.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: N/A
Legal Considerations: Council must approve this donation.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the purchase and donation of the two exercise
bikes to be used by all participants who visit Gallops Senior Center.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO ACCEPT THE DONATION OF TWO EXERCISE BIKES TO BE
PURCHASED BY MEMBERS OF GALLOPS SENIOR CENTER TO BE USED IN THE CENTER?S WEIGHT
ROOM.
WHEREAS, the members of Gallops Senior Center request to spend $400.00 to
purchase two Exercise Bikes to be placed in the center?s weight room for all
participants to use; and,
WHEREAS, a healthier heart, stronger bones, improved appearance and flexibility
are just some of the benefits of exercising, especially for seniors; and,
WHEREAS, seniors have even more to gain than younger people by becoming more
active because they are at higher risk for the health problems that physical
activity can prevent; and,
WHEREAS, exercise is beneficial in preventing dementia and Alzheimer?s; and,
WHEREAS, exercise may delay or prevent many diseases associated with aging,
such as diabetes, colon cancer, heart disease, stroke, and others, and may
reduce overall death and hospitalization rates, according to the National
Institute of Aging.
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept two Exercise Bikes
purchased by members of Gallops Senior Center to place in the center?s weight
room for all participants to use.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
