SUBJECT: Hopey?s Heart Foundation Donation



INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation





Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application for a grant and

if awarded accept a grant donation of a defibrillator valued at approximately

$1,255.00 from the Hopey?s Heart Foundation.



Background: Hopey?s Heart Foundation is donating AED?s to selected

schools, nonprofit community centers, and recreation centers who apply for

these donations.



Analysis: The Parks and Recreation Department is in need of updated AED?s in

most of our centers and this will enable the department to receive one through

this grant.



Financial Considerations: This will be at no cost to the City as it is a

donation.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None expected



Legal Considerations: Council must approve the acceptance of this donation



Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to apply for a grant and if

awarded, accept a donation from Hopey?s Heart Foundation of a defibrillator

valued at approximately $1,255.00

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF

APPROVED ACCEPT A DONATION OF A DEFIBRILLATOR VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY $1,255.00

GIVEN BY HOPEY?S HEART FOUNDATION.

WHEREAS, sudden cardiac death caused by sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a

leading cause of death in the U.S. and can strike young people participating in

athletic activities at schools, community centers, and recreation centers; and,

WHEREAS, placing AED?s in schools, community centers, and recreation centers

may increase the chance of saving the lives of young athletes experiencing SCA

in these environments; and,



WHEREAS, The Hopey?s Heart Foundation is donating AED?s to selected schools,

nonprofit community centers, and recreation centers who apply for such

donation; and,



WHEREAS, this donation will be at no cost to the City.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit a grant

application and if awarded accept a donation of a defibrillator valued at

approximately $1,255.00 from the Hopey?s Heart Foundation.
