PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING A PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia, has tentatively adopted a

millage rate, which will require an increase in property taxes in the following

taxing districts:

Urban Services District #1, #5, #6, #7 3.00 percent

Urban Services District #2 2.50 percent

Urban Services District #4 1.00 percent

Business Improvement District #5 2.00 percent

Business Improvement District #6 2.85 percent

Business Improvement District #7 1.00 percent

County-Wide Bonds 1.25 percent

When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia Law requires

that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total

revenue on the current year?s digest that last year?s millage rate would have

produced.

The budget tentatively adopted by the Columbus Consolidated Government requires

that a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate. Therefore, before

the Columbus Consolidated Government may finalize the tentative budget and set

a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to

allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase

to be held in the Council Chambers on the plaza level of the Government Center

Tower, 100 10th Street, on June 3, 2008 at 9:00 a.m., June 3, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.

and June 10, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.
