Agenda Report # 26
TO: Mayor and Councilors
SUBJECT: Lease Agreement ? 1807 17th Street ? Girl Scouts of Historic
Georgia
INITIATED BY: Community Reinvestment
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a lease agreement with the
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia to lease the building at 1807 17th Street for
$1 per year for a period of twenty (20) years.
Background: The City owns the property located at 1807 17th Street. The Girls
Scouts of Historic Georgia have occupied the building since 1948. The current
lease signed in 1996 is set to expire on September 30, 2016. The Girls Scouts
are requesting to extend this lease for an additional 20 years for $1 per year.
Per the attached letter they would like to conduct substantial renovations to
the building, which would include an addition, in order to relocate its main
headquarters back to this location with the understanding that all renovations
and additions must be approved by Columbus Consolidated Government and the
local Historic Board. The request for designated parking will be evaluated and
determined at a later date.
Analysis: This building has served as a symbol of Girl Scouting and provided a
?Little House? where generations of Girl Scouts has met for the last 68 years
in the Columbus Area. The Girl Scouts would like to move its headquarters back
to this location to re-establish the ?Little House? as their local office and
girl scout program facility. The Girl Scouts will renovate, and add an addition
to the building, at no cost to the City which will improve the aesthetics to
the neighborhood and increase the value of the structure.
Financial Considerations: There will be no cost burden to the City. The
tenant will be responsible for all improvements, maintenance and utilities, and
will be required to maintain liability and property insurance.
Legal Considerations: Any lease agreement involving the City requires Council
approval.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to enter into a lease agreement
with the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia to lease the building at 1807 17th
Street for $1 per year for a period of twenty (20) years.
