Council Members

THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY

MINUTES OF MEETING

January 26, 2010

The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull

Creek Golf Course. Members present were Aubry Burt, Nancy Wilkeson, Carl

Williams, Rhudine Nelson and Rev. Hill. Richard Hagler, Floyd Washington, Rudy

Allen and Michael Silverstein had an excused absence. Staff member present was

Steve Brown. Mr. Milam was out of town attending a PGA conference.

Minutes of the October 27, 2009 meeting were approved as presented. Motion

made by Carl Williams and seconded by Rev. Hill. There were no meetings held

in November and December 2009.

Old Business

Mr. Milam, Isaiah Hugley and the City?s financial analyst met to discuss

Columbus State University?s lease of the driving range at Bull Creek. It was

determined that there was not a problem with the lease itself. CSU has decided

to exercise their option for one year to look for another location. Bull Creek

provides CSU the following services: mowing the tees and surrounding area,

sand bunker maintenance, fertilizing, irrigation, transportation to and from

the range, range ball pick-up. Mr. Immelmen teaches private golf lessons and

teaches golf classes to students registered at CSU. CSU has also added a

women?s golf team.

Bull Creek has received yardage books for the East Course. The books for the

West Course should arrive in the next few weeks. The books were printed free to

Bull Creek and Bull Creek will in turn sell them for $5.00 each. The printing

company did a great job. Personalizing each golf hole with a statement is an

added touch.

New Business

A letter was received at Bull Creek on December 8, 2009 thanking the staff for

their hospitality and professionalism given to Mr. Jim McElreath, National

Accounts Executive at Golfweek, and his group who played Thanksgiving weekend.

Superintendent Report by Steve Brown

Since the last Authority meeting, October 2009, Bull Creek has received 23.6

inches of rain. Bull Creek usually experiences one flood per year, however;

this past year, five floods were recorded. The last two floods were only ten

days apart. Several projects have been cut short or delayed due to the rains.

There is no noticeable cold damage done to the greens and it is too early to

detect any damage done to the fairways. The coldest temperature at Bull Creek

was 13 degrees.

Winter weed control has been applied to half the course. The rest will be

applied in the next few weeks.

Godwin Creek

No report.

Director of Golf

Revenues for Bull Creek were $4,000 less is October ?09 compared to the same

time the previous year. In November ?09, revenues were practically even and in

December ?09, revenues were down by $29,000 (the worst month ever). It is all

weather related.

Revenues for Oxbow Creek were virtually even for October ?09 compared to the

same time the previous year. In November ?09, revenues improved by $2,500 and

in December ?09, were down by $1,400.

The good news is that tournaments are being scheduled at Bull Creek in the

spring.

Nancy Wilkeson was asked to clarify with the authority members regarding

Muscogee County and/or city employee discounts. We all understood that the

discount (free green fees) applied only to those mentioned and does not apply

to Harris County Sherriff/Police and/or Ft. Benning fire fighters. If this is

incorrect, it will be re-addressed at the next authority meeting held in

February.

Rhudine Nelson adjourned the meeting at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
