Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

June 19, 2007

Agenda Report # 162

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: Spirit Filled Methodist Church Lease Agreement

INITIATED BY: Department of Community Reinvestment

______________________________________________________________________

Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a three year lease

agreement with the Spirit Filled Methodist Church for the Boxwood Recreation

Center, 1101 Morris Road a/k/a 066 019 054 Columbus, Georgia and Belvedere

Recreation Center, 726 Parkwood Drive a/k/a 095 040 007 Columbus, Georgia

Background: In 1998, Boxwood and Belvedere Recreation Centers were closed and

the activities were consolidated into the new Recreation Supercenters. The

Spirit Filled Methodist Church is requesting to reopen the two centers to

provide recreational, educational and community support programs. The church

has agreed to provide the cost of rehabilitation of the centers and all

maintenance and upkeep of the facilities under the terms of the lease. The

centers will be open to all citizens of the community.

Analysis: The City no longer has a use for the recreation centers. The

reopening of the centers by the Church will benefit the community with the

additional recreational and educational opportunities. The term of the lease

agreement will be for 3 years at $1 per year. The lease will contain 3

three-year renewal terms with Council approval of each term.

Financial Considerations: No impact to the operating budget.

Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed the lease and agrees to

form.

Recommendations: Approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager

to enter into a three year lease agreement with the Spirit Filled Methodist

Church for the Boxwood Recreation Center, 1101 Morris Road a/k/a 066 019 054

Columbus, Georgia and Belvedere Recreation Center, 726 Parkwood Drive a/k/a 095

040 007 Columbus, Georgia
