MINUTES # 38-09
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, October 26, 2009 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor
Richard Stallings, Assessor Ann Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also
present was Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#37-09; Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board signed an assessment correction for real estate.
Met with Mr. Trivett regarding his personal property account # 06013301. Mr.
Trivett stated that when he and his wife opened the business the equipment in
the laundry mat was old and only a few machines were in working order. He said
he was also employed by the owner of the real estate and did not think the
lease included the equipment (no copy of lease available). He said within two
weeks of acquiring the business license, he was incarcerated until March 2000
and did not do any business in 2000. Assessor Richard Stallings made the motion
to reduce the value for obsolete equipment to a salvage value of $499; Assessor
Pat Hunter seconded the motion. After further discussion, a vote was taken with
Assessor Richard Stallings, Assessor Pat Hunter and Chairman William Braxton
voting yes; Assessor Ann Grantham abstained from voting and Assessor Lawton
Grantham voting no. Motion carried.
Met with Residential Division Manager Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:
Value Adjustments: 3
Com Div Mgr Linda King apprised the Board of a permit for demolition, which was
missed. Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion to reduce the value for 2005
forward as an erroneous assessment; Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion;
motion carried.

Pers Prop Mgr Oliver Juhan informed the Board that he discovered seven
businesses with no business license or certificates of occupancy. Pers Prop Div
Mgr Juhan said he forwarded the names of the businesses to the Occupation Tax
Office and Code & Enforcement Division for their review.
