Uptown Columbus Comes Alive With Concerts, Festivals, Parades, Holiday Events
and Much More?
Life is back in full swing in Uptown Columbus as locals and visitors have been
enjoying the newly revamped streetscape; dining in the many fine eateries,
shopping in the unique and trendy boutiques and attending fun-filled events and
concerts in the one-of-a-kind atmosphere that is inherent to the Uptown area.
This Fall Season and the rest of the year promise a full calendar of events to
look forward to.
The Broadway Event Series: brought to you by The Columbus Convention & Visitors
Bureau and UPtown Columbus, Inc. continues with Market Days and the Fall Friday
night concerts.
Market Days on Broadway has become a popular Saturday morning excursion
featuring locally grown farm fresh produce, fresh baked goods, fresh flowers,
art, and handcrafted items that will delight you every Saturday on the east
side of the 1000 block of Broadway, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm through November
8th.
The Uptown Concert Series will take place every Friday night from October 3rd
to October 31st. The events will take place on the main stage on the 1100
Block of Broadway from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Young Professionals (YP) from
the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce will host the concert October
3rd. The Oct. 10th concert will be in honor of Columbus Day in conjunction
with The Columbus Consolidated Government.
The 73rd Annual Tuskegee/Morehouse Football Classic is set for October 11th,
2:00 pm at AJ McClung Memorial Stadium. The parade makes its way through
Broadway from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
This year, the 13th Annual Arts on the River will be held on Broadway in Uptown
Columbus Saturday, October 18th, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The fine art show
and sale will showcase paint media, photography, metalwork, glass, hand thrown
pottery, sculpture, and woodcarving. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the
day, including activities for children. The event is free to the public and
will be handicapped accessible.
It's chills and thrills the weekends in October and Halloween week as you
venture on the Walk with the Shadows tour. This 1.5 - hour lantern lit night
walk will explore ghosts, legends, murder mystery and haunted houses that
abound in Columbus. 8-9:30 p.m. Leave from the Marriott Hotel lobby. Cost is
$13. CASH only. Come in costume any night from October 24-November 1st and you

Pirates of the Chattahoochee will take place on October 25th, from 11:00 am to
4:00 pm at The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus. Join in for a
day of family pirate fun and adventure! Boat rides, kid?s activities and games,
pirate tattoos and face paint, live cannon toss competition, music, jewelry
making, art activities, treasure hunting and more! Tour the collection of naval
ships and listen to the 97th Regimental Band playing lively Civil War era
music. Bring the entire family for a day of swashbuckling fun!
Also on October 25th, The Columbus Business Improvement District (BID) hosts
the seventh annual ?SPOOKTACULAR.? The ?Spooktacular? Halloween Festival will
be held Saturday, October 25th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the 1000 and 1100
blocks of Broadway. The fair features over 40 activities, including pumpkin
painting, duck pond, spooky spider fishing, a costume contest, a candy walk and
much, much more. ?Spooktacular? provides a safe environment for the children
of Columbus to enjoy the holiday. So wear your best costume and come to
?Spooktacular? for a haunting night of ghosts and goblins, spooky activities,
candy and lots of fun!!!
Christmas Made in the South is planned for October 31st to November 2nd. This
seasonal shopper?s delight will be held at the Columbus Convention and Trade
Center.
The month of November brings The 19th Annual Fountain City Football Classic on
November 1st. The parade proceeds down Broadway from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Broadway Holiday returns on December 5th. It?s that time of year! Join us for
the ceremonial lighting of Columbus? 40-foot tree in the 1100 block of Broadway
at 6:30 pm. From the main stage, choirs will herald the season alongside a
visit from Santa and his reindeer. Will they bring a snow flurry from the
North Pole? Come and see as we celebrate a night of Holiday cheer at Broadway
Holiday!
RiverCenter?s Winterfest will be December 5th ? December 7th. The shopping
extravaganza will run Friday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday from 11:00 am
to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Also in December, is Port Columbus? Victorian Christmas. Victorian Christmas
is scheduled for December 5th and 6th. The museum is decorated throughout with
circa 1863 decorations and trees. An original 1862 Santa will listen to
children's wish lists. Photos and Breakfast with Santa are available.
Admission to the museum is FREE during the open house.
The 9th Annual Reindeer Run is Saturday December 13, 2008 beginning at 8:00 am.
This popular event has grown each year and hosts a fun day of racing/ walking
and entertainment for pre-K through 8th grade students. Hosted by Country?s
Barbecue, the event benefits the Children?s Miracle Network at the Medical
Center. This is a fun filled family day for children of all ages.
The Bi-City Christmas Parade follows the Reindeer Run beginning at 10:00 am in
Phenix City and marches through Uptown ending at 11:30 am. See floats from all
different organizations and companies and a few surprises as well.
