MINUTES # 20-10
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, May 17, 2010 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor Pat
Hunter and Assessor Derrick Shields present. Also present was Chief Appraiser
Betty J. Middleton. Assessor Ann Grantham was absent.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#19-10. Assessor Derrick
Shields seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to excuse Assessor Ann Grantham who is
attending a funeral out of State; Assessor Derrick Shields seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
The Board signed assessment corrections for real estate.
The Board asked if information was received from Mr. Grizzle to support his
request to receive homestead exemption on his home. After discussion Assessor
Lawton Grantham made a motion to uphold the Tax Commissioner Office?s decision
of removing the homestead exemption for PID 085 043 040 18 for 2010; Assessor
Pat Hunter seconded the motion; motion carried.
Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:

Condo-Reval: 1

Com Div Mgr Linda King discussed with the Board the decision rendered by
Arbitration on PID 083 044 001 for 2007 and what value the Board would place on
the same parcel for 2009, which is also under Arbitration. The Board approved
the Com Div Mgr Linda King?s recommendation of $481,370.
The Board revisited decision delayed on May 3, 2010 for personal property Acct#
07195901. Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to remove the assessment for
2009 as erroneously assessed with the assessment remaining for 2008; Assessor
Derrick Shield seconded the motion; motion carried.
