SUBJECT: Optional Relocation Policy
INITIATED BY: City Manager?s Office
Recommendation: Approval is requested to establish and adopt an optional
business relocation policy and an optional residential relocation policy.
Background: The Columbus Consolidated Government will make available
assistance under this policy to any business or rental residential units
required to relocate due to the City?s acquisition of the property by
governmental activity without activating the Uniform Relocation Act. The
policy will apply to all acquisition of property acquired with General, SPLOST,
Enterprise Zone and/or any other non-federal funding source. The Department of
Community Reinvestment is responsible for the acquisition and property
management for the Columbus Consolidated Government. The department will be
responsible for the administration of this policy. The effective date of this
resolution will be January 1, 2007.
Analysis: The relocation services and benefits set forth in this policy only
applies to those businesses and tenants that are displaced prior to the
expiration of the existing lease. ?The City will retain the option to waive the
current rent for a business or residential units based upon a cost/benefit
analysis of the rent payments vs. the liability of maintaining the property.
Financial Considerations: ?The maximum amount available under this policy is
$5,000 per business and $1,000 per Residential Unit.
Recommendation: Approve a resolution establishing and adopting an optional
business relocation policy and an optional residential relocation policy.
