Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

September 22, 2009

Agenda Report # 427

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: Knology Agreement ? Legacy Terrace

INITIATED BY: Department of Community Reinvestment

________________________________________________________________________________

_______

Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a Cable Television Service

Agreement between the Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia and Knology

of Columbus, Inc., to provide cable services to Legacy Terrace Apartments.

Background: The City of Columbus purchased the Legacy Terrace Apartments in

April of 2009. Legacy Terrace is a 17 unit gated Senior Living Facility located

at 801 9th Street. The City entered into a Management Agreement with the

Housing Authority of Columbus to manage and operate the facility. When the

apartments were opened in 2006, no cable service was provided to the facility.

The lack of cable services has hindered the Housing Authority in leasing the

apartments.

Analysis: Knology will provide cable television services to the apartment

complex for a term of seven years. Knology will install and provide all

equipment necessary to provide the cable services at their expense. Knology

will have exclusive rights to market it products for the term of the

agreement. Knology will also provide all construction, maintenance and service

to the system.

Financial Considerations: There is no cost to the City of Columbus.

Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the proposed

Cable Television Service Agreement.

Recommendations: Approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter

into a Cable Television Service Agreement between the Consolidated Government

of Columbus, Georgia and Knology of Columbus, Inc., to provide cable television

services to Legacy Terrace Apartments.
