MINUTES OF THE MEETING

OF

THE ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD



The ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD met TUESDAY, July 17, 2011, at 2:30 P.M. at

the Animal Care & Control Center.

CALL TO ORDER



Kathy McCarley called the meeting to order at 2:33 P.M.



Kathy McCarley presented the minutes of the last meeting; Tom Bryan moved they

be approved as written; Jean McKee seconded; approval was unanimous.



Tom Bryan gave each board member a copy of the ?The Partnership? between PAWS

Humane, Inc. and Columbus Consolidated Government. The board discussed the

agreement of the partnership.



Bob Robins explained to the board the No Kill document that was presented to

the Mayor. He also verified with Chris Brown a meeting set up for August 11th

between PAWS/Humane, Columbus Animal Control, City Manager and the Mayor.



Tom Bryan stated he does not believe that the agreement between PAWS/Humane and

Columbus Animal Control has been reached.



Chris Brown informed the board that Animal Control is recommending a program be

set up thru PAWS for volunteers to work at the Animal Control Center to improve

customer service.



The board discussed the screening of volunteers, age recommended and waivers

that would need to be signed.



Kathy McCarley introduced Ron Smith, Deputy Director of Public Services, who

would be filling in for Gary Stickles until a Director is hired.



In discussing fund raise for the Animal Control & Care Center, the board was

informed that fund raisers could only donate food, toys, beds, etc., no money

to the Animal Control Center.



Chris Brown informed the board that the city has approved to release animals to

rescuers who are licensed through the state. Cathy McCarley also stated that

the rescuers are checked by the state in assure the animals are spayed and

neutered.





Ron Smith asked the possibility of animals being spay or neutered before

leaving the facility.



Dr. Carol Houston discussed what will be needed when presenting to the

Veterinary Association the spay/neuter voucher for services.



The board discussed rescuers proposals be presented to ACAB and a link for

?Question & Answers? be set up on the website.



Cathy McCarley adjourned the meeting at 3:48 P.M.
