Cindy Ware, Finance Manager and Ms. Chasity Hall, Secretary
CALL TO ORDER
At 12:11 P.M., Chairman Lori Auten called the meeting to order.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Lori Auten asked if all members present had received and read the
minutes from the previous meeting. With no corrections or additions to be made
Mr. Colin Martin made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 26, 2011
meeting. Vice Chairman Jed Harris then seconded the motion and the minutes were
accepted as written.
APPROVAL OF MEMBER ABSENCES
There was a brief discussion regarding the absence of Mr. Colin Martin and Dr.
Kim Peters from the previous month?s meeting. Although Dr. Peters was again
absent it was determined that both she and Mr. Martin were excused for their
absences due to work related obligations. Vice Chairman Jed Harris made a
motion to approve said absences and Mrs. Gloria Strode seconded the motion,
which was unanimously carried by all members present.
NEW BUSINESS
JULY AUTHORITY MEETING Mr. Larry Campbell reminded the members that as in
previous years there would not be an Authority meeting in July. Larry stated
that due to the city?s fiscal year-end, Ms. Cindy Ware would not receive the
financial information in adequate time to have the reports prepared for the
meeting. Larry added that the Authority would resume the normal monthly
schedule in August.
OLD BUSINESS
CONVENTION CENTER HOTEL Larry reported that the convention center hotel was an
ongoing project and that the Development Authority continued to be in contact
with the potential developer. Larry added that he had recently learned that
the potential developer had just bought the Calloway Lodge and Spa in Pine
Mountain GA and turned it into a Marriott. Larry stated that this might be an
attributing factor in the delay of the convention center hotel project.
GROUNDS KEEPER POSITION Mr. Larry Campbell reported that as part of the new
budget, the Trade Center Grounds Keeper position had been eliminated. Larry
stated that this had been a relatively new position that had been created after
the expansion. Larry stated that financially it was better choice to contract
the work out through an outside company. Larry added that A Cut Above had been
contracted to handle the facility?s landscaping needs beginning July 1.
FY-12 BUDGET Larry stated that after the initial changes had been made to
the budget by the finance department, the Trade Center FY-12 Budget, as
submitted to Council by the Mayor, remained unchanged throughout the process.
Larry added that because there were no changes the Trade Center did not have to
appear before Council. Ms. Cindy Ware shared a PowerPoint presentation
highlighting the breakdown of the $2,794,095 budget.
FINANCIAL REPORT
MAY 2011 See attached report.
On a motion made by Mr. Colin Martin and seconded by Vice Chairman Jed Harris
the May 2011 financial report was approved as prepared and presented by Ms.
Cindy Ware.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Larry shared with the Authority that the Trade Center had won the
Columbus Ledger Enquirer?s, Reader?s Choice Award for Favorite Wedding Venue.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further items of business to discuss, Chairman Lori Auten adjourned the
meeting at 1:13 p.m. The next regular meeting, which is normally held the
fourth Thursday of each month, due to the fiscal year end will be Thursday,
