SUBJECT: Georgia Appleseed, Inc.
INITIATED BY: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a contract with Georgia
Appleseed Inc. to award funding for Crime Prevention initiatives.
Background: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has agreed to recommend the
funding of $90,000.00 to Georgia Appleseed Inc. The funding for this program
will be concentrated on crime prevention and reduction of the school to prison
pipeline. Georgia Appleseed will contribute to Muscogee County?s effort to
find more ways to keep kids in class, out of juvenile courts and on the road to
graduation. They will also be helping Muscogee County Schools implement the
PBIS, (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports), system.
Analysis: Funds will be used to open a field office in Muscogee County in
order to tackle the issues that face our at risk juveniles.
Financial Considerations: These funds are appropriated from the Other Local
Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program and do not require a match.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing the Mayor and/or
City Manager to enter into a contract with Georgia Appleseed, Inc., to provide
funding for research and programming for at risk juveniles in Muscogee County.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT WITH GEORGIA APPLESEEDS
INC. FOR $90,000.00 FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE INITIATIVES OF GEORGIA
APPLESEED INC.
WHEREAS, Georgia Appleseed Inc. has the Georgia Appleseed Program to impact the
lives of juveniles to reduce the rate of truancy, criminal behavior and
delinquency; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has authorized funding under
the Crime Prevention Program for this project in the amount of $90,000.00 to
the Georgia Appleseed Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The Mayor and/or City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a
contract through the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention with Georgia Appleseed
Inc. for $90,000.00 for funding the Georgia Appleseed Program. Funds are
budgeted in the FY15 budget: Other Local Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention
Program.
