The terms of office of Ms. Elizabeth Barker, Mr. Charlie Desai and Mr.
James F. Smith on the Convention & Visitors Board of Commissioners will expire
on December 31, 2011. Ms. Barker was confirmed by the Council on June 3, 2008
to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Susan Lawhorn, who resigned from the board.
This will be the end of her first full term on the board; therefore, she is
eligible to serve one last term of office.
Mr. James F. Smith was confirmed back on December 4, 2007 to fill the
unexpired term of Mr. Bill Webster Ressmeyer and reappointed in 2009 for a new
term of office. This will be the end of his first full term of office;
therefore, he is eligible to serve one last term of office.
Mr. Desai was appointed in February of 2011 to fill the unexpired term of
Mr. Tom Gates, who resigned from the board. This will be the end of that
unexpired term; therefore, Mr. Desai is eligible to be appointed for a new full
term of office.
Members of this board are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the
Council. There are currently two women serving on this board.
Attached is a list of the current members as well as a copy of the data
sheet on this board.

CHARTER REFERENCE: No reference to this specific board, but see Section 4-104,
General Provisions Concerning Boards, Commissions, and Authorities.
COLUMBUS CODE REFERENCE: Sections 2-91 through 2-99.
COMPOSTION OF BOARD: It has fourteen appointed members, plus the Mayor who
serves as an ex officio member and the executive director of the Convention and
Visitor?s Bureau, who is not entitled to vote. (Cols. Code Secs. 2-91 through
2-92)
QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Shall be citizens of Columbus and qualified by law
to vote at elections for the selection of the Mayor and members of the Columbus
Council. (Col. Code Sec. 2-91). ONE MEMBER shall be the owner or manager of a
hotel or motel. ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the food service industry.
ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the board of directors of the Columbus
Chamber of Commerce. ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the board of directors
of the Historic Columbus Foundation, and TEN MEMBERS shall be selected at
large. (Col. Code Sec. 2-92)

Columbus Council.

DATE MEMBERS ARE APPOINTED: In July for a term beginning the following

tourism, trade, and conventions in Columbus.
COMPENSATION: Members are not compensated.

Charge/Mission: This board was established to promote tourism, trade, and
