SUBJECT: Sheriff?s Office - FY15 Public Safety Reserve Request
INITIATED BY: Sheriff?s Office / Finance Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested of a resolution transferring $211,819
of the FY15 Public Safety Vacancy Reserve for the Sheriff to the Sheriff?s
Office General Fund Budget to fill 6 of the 7 vacant positions.
Background: The FY15 Budget for the General Fund which was approved on June 17,
2014, and included $1,889,900 as a Public Safety Vacancy Reserve. The Sheriff
has requested to fill 6 of the 7 vacant positions and per Ordinance #14-25, the
council must approve utilization of the Public Safety Vacancy Reserve. The
total reserve allocated to the Sheriff?s Office was $265,251.
Analysis: The FY15 Public Safety Vacancy Reserve was established to set aside
funding for vacant Public Safety positions in the Police Department, Fire
Department, Muscogee County Prison, and the Sheriff?s Office and to transfer
necessary funds with approval from Council.
Financial Considerations: The request is made for filling 6 of 7 vacant
positions in the Sheriff?s Office.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: No annual fiscal impact.
Legal Considerations: Council approval is required per Ordinance #14-25.
Recommendations/Actions: Approve a resolution transferring $211,819 of the

General Fund Budget to fill 6 of the 7 vacant positions.
A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Columbus Council approved the FY15 Operating Budget on June 17, 2014;
and,
WHEREAS, the FY15 Public Safety Vacancy Reserve was established at $1,889,900;
and,
WHEREAS, the FY15 Public Safety Vacancy Reserve balance allocated to the
Sheriff?s Office is $265,251;
WHEREAS, in accordance with Ordinance #14-25, the Sheriff appeared before
Council on December 9, 2014 and requested funding for 6 vacant positions; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
That the Sheriff?s Office is hereby appropriated up to $211,819 for the 6 of
the 7 vacant positions. The appropriate amount will be transferred after each
position is filled.
