Creek Golf Course. Members present were Nan Hopkins, Floyd Washington, Nancy
Wilkeson, Donald Clack, Richard Hagler, Aubry Burt and Michael Silverstein.
Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown. June Holder and Willie
Hill had an excused absence.
Minutes of the January 23, 2007 meeting were approved as presented. Motion
made by Donald Clack and seconded by Floyd Washington.
Old Business
None.
New Business
The City Managers Office has requested a strategic action plan to 2014. Mr.
Milam submitted the following improvements to Bull Creek: new clubhouse, new
cart barn, new maintenance building and a new greens mower for the next five
years. Bull Creek is expecting a new greens mower in the next few months. The
following was submitted for Oxbow Creek: expand the clubhouse, expand the cart
barn and maintenance building, add an additional nine holes and a new greens
mower for the next two years. These projects will cost approximately 8 million
dollars.
Mrs. Cheryl Grimes will retire at the end of March. Mrs. Georgette Hackett
will replace Mrs. Grimes. She will begin her employment on March 1st.
Superintendent Report by Steve Brown
Steve?s crew has been working on the following: removal of dead trees,
painting the pavilion and restrooms on the course, adding sand to bunkers,
rip-rap was added to the creek on 3 West; new signage was installed on the
driving range and spraying the course for winter weed control.
The following work is planned for the next month: removal of dead trees; more
bunker work, spring application of fairway weed control and add a cement slab
(work done by the city) to the pavilion. Bull Creek will add an awning. This
will allow outings to have a cover above the food preparation area.
Steve has filled the position of irrigation technician. Chad Patterson is
experienced and started working yesterday.
Lawrence Adams (prison labor foreman at Bull Creek for 19 years) will be
leaving in May. Steven Brown stated that it would take an additional 11 people
to replace Mr. Adams and his prison labor crew if no new guard is hired. Mr.
Hagler suggested to Mr. Milam to return to the City and adjust the budget to
keep Mr. Adams gainfully employed.
Godwin Creek
The First Tee has received a grant of $10,000 from the USGA and from the
Atlanta Falcons. They are awaiting an outside pledge. Mr. John Godwin held a
pro-am at Callaway Gardens last week and funds will be donated to The First
Tee. On March 24th, the middle schools in the area started their matches. At
the end of May, the summer programs will begin. The Optimist Club will hold its
annual tournament on June 16th.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek?s revenue for 2007 compared to this time last year is up about
$60,000. That profit is with the expenses also being significantly higher.
Revenue for the month of February is higher as well. It is the product of warm
weather. Bull Creek has seen some extra play because conditions at other
courses are not as favorable. Oxbow Creek has also increased its revenue by
approximately $32,000 compared to this time last year.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:13 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
