A RESOLUTION

No.



WHEREAS, Columbus attorney James E. Humes II died on January 8, 2007;



WHEREAS, as a partner at the law firm of Hatcher, Stubbs, Land Hollis

and Rothschild, he served for many years as attorney for the Muscogee County

School District and the Columbus Water Works;



WHEREAS, he was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 7, 1945, graduated from

Columbus High School in 1963, received a BBA degree in 1967 from the University

of Georgia (Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Alpha Epsilon), received his J.D. degree,

cum laude, from the University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law in 1970 and

remained a loyal Bulldog for the rest of his life;



WHEREAS, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and then practiced law

at Hatcher, Stubbs for 35 years;



WHEREAS, he was a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Georgia,

Columbus Bar Association, Downtown Rotary Club, and a lifelong member of St.

Paul United Methodist Church;



WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Cannon Humes; two

daughters, Amy Humes Norris and her husband, Charlton Norris of Columbus; Sarah

Cannon Humes Andre and her husband, John Andre of Atlanta; one grandson, James

Paul Ferguson III of Columbus; a brother, John Wilson Humes, Jr. and his wife

Susan Humes; and one niece, Frances Humes of Jacksonville, FL.; his stepmother,

Mary Alice McDonald Humes; his aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Augustus B. Dudley,

Jr.; his uncle, Bethell Edrington, Jr., and several cousins.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Mr. James E. Humes II. His service to his country and the Columbus community

will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the

family of Mr. James E. Humes.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

6th day of February, 2007 and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote

of ten members of Council.
