MINUTES # 08-10
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, February 22, 2010 at
9:00AM with
Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Lawton Grantham, and Assessor Pat Hunter
present. Also
present was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton. Assessor Ann Grantham and
Assessor Derrick Shields
were absent.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#06-10. Assessor Lawton
Grantham seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#07-10. Assessor Lawton
Grantham seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board also reviewed and approved the following VA letters of application
for VA homestead exemptions for 2010:
Harris 099 024 010
Schlagerait 059 036 009
Henry 108 001 017
Met with Mr. Brown concerning VA exemption for PID 144 008 009. Mr. Brown
stated that he does not like to pay for someone else?s mistakes. The Board
reviewed the copy of the notification Mr. Brown received granting him his
exemption for being a disabled veteran. The Board explained to Mr. Brown that
both sentences had to be read together and the second sentence is stating that
he is to receive his VA exemption for 2009. Mr. Brown supplied the documents
requested by the Board and his mortgage statement indicated that he had been
escrowed just for a vacant lot. The Board took no action.
Mr. Sprouse and Mr. Ellis had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors,
but postponed the meeting.
Met with Personal Property Division Manager Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved
the following:

Approval of Freeport Applications Only: 3
