Council Members

THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY

MINUTES OF MEETING

June 26, 2007

The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull

Creek Golf Course. Members present were Floyd Washington, Nancy Wilkeson,

Richard Hagler, Nan Hopkins, Willie Hill, Michael Silverstein, Aubry Burt and

June Holder. Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown. Donald

Clack had an excused absence.

Minutes of the May 22, 2007 meeting were approved as presented. Motion made by

June Holder and seconded by Floyd Washington.

Old Business

Mr. Milam and Richard Hagler met with Mayor Wetherington to discuss the prison

guard issues and expanding Oxbow Creek. Mr. Hagler stated that there was

little hope to include the guards under the old pension program. It would be a

long shot. When the land is capped at Oxbow Creek and another SPLOST is

approved, an additional nine holes maybe added.

New Business

Mr. Herbert Greene, Athletic Director, Dr. Ron Marlowe, Executive Director of

Foundation Property and Mr. Tom Helton, Vice-President for Business and Finance

met with the authority members to discuss the teaching facility that is located

at Bull Creek Golf Course. A three-bay permanent structure is currently under

construction. The current building that houses CSU is 700 square feet and will

be replaced with a new structure that will be approximately 1500 square feet at

a cost of $50,000 to $60,000. The new structure will not encroach on the

driving range. The site plans and permit will be submitted to the authority

members.

Superintendent Report by Steve Brown

The aeration of the greens at Bull Creek and Oxbow Creek were completed the

first two weeks on June. The next aeration will begin on July 16th. Bull

Creek received approximately 2 ? ? of rain in the last few weeks. We are now

at full lake level.

Steve reports that we are still waiting to hear from Georgia Power regarding

the reimbursement to repair the pump panel from the power surge.

On Sunday evening, June 24th, the greens on the East course from the first hole

to the six hole at Bull Creek were damaged. A 2 ? by 2-foot hole was gouged

out on the back right portion of the green on No. 1. Other damaged included

numerous small divots (done by the flagstick) around the cup; all the flags

were removed from the pole and stolen, two 150-yard markers were missing, rakes

broken, water fountain overturned and one granite tee sign knocked over. The

damage was discovered at 6:20 am on Monday morning. Also, golf cart #60 was

left off the line because of backfiring and was taken from the barn and

returned damaged. It was one of the last carts put into the barn on Sunday

evening. Mr. Hagler suggested to Mr. Milam that a police report needed to be

made.

Godwin Creek

Godwin Creek is doing well. There are many kids involved in the weekly

programs, however more kids need scholarships. The Optimist Tournament had 90

kids participating. Each child received lunch and a small token. The top girl

and boy winner are invited to participate in the state tournament. The First

Tee kids were standard bearers at the Southeastern Amateur Tournament held at

the Columbus Country Club. Godwin Creek has spent around $500 for water this

past month.

Director of Golf

Mr. Milam stated that the revenue and expenses from Oxbow Creek would be about

the same as it has been for the last several years. Bull Creek on the other

hand will have its best year since Mr. Milam became the Director of Golf. We

have only a few days left of this fiscal year and if things continue the way

they are, we will be approximately $200,000 ahead of last year. Mr. Milam

credits a milder winter, the drought and the resources given to Steve Brown to

produce a great product.

June Holder asked Mr. Milam if the tee boxes could be cut shorter. Nancy

Wilkeson stated there is a leak in the restroom between the 14th and 15th holes

on the East course. Rev. Hill asked about children on golf carts. Apparently,

when transporting kids to Golf Tech from the clubhouse, coaches are putting

kids at risk when overloading the golf cart. Mr. Milam will check into these

matters.

Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:22 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
