MINUTES # 02-10
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, January 11, 2010 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann
Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser
Betty J. Middleton.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#01-10. Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.
The Board also reviewed and approved the following VA letters of application
for VA homestead exemptions for 2010:
Byrum 191 039 012
Ford 115 026 002
Harper 179 015 007
Loving 059 001 001
Oglesby 098 017 020
Price 100 050 015
Redding 115 024 004
Williams 114 026 027
Ziglor 095 030 003
The Board approved the Final Certification for Rehabilitated Historic Property
for PID 004 009 004.
Chairman Braxton signed letters to the Development Authority requesting
information.
Met with Mr. Helton and Mr. Myers representing Columbus State
University/Foundation Property Inc. regarding requests for non-taxability for
PID 003 011 001; 003 012 001; 004 018 019; 003 010 002 and 069 022 002. Mr.
Helton reviewed each parcel with the Board as to their use. Mr. Helton was
advised to set up an appointment with the Commercial Staff to tour two of the
facilities. Decision delayed until after the field review.
Met with Mr. Delgado representing Prince Hall Masonic Bldg. regarding a request
for non-taxability for PID 019 018 002. Mr. Delgado furnished the Board a list
of all the affiliated organizations that meet at the lodge and a copy of the
By-Laws. After discussion regarding the use and meetings, Assessor Ann Grantham
made a motion to approve the request for non-taxability; Assessor Pat Hunter
seconded the motion; motion carried.
