Agenda Item#____2_____

Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

Agenda Report#__230_____

To: Mayor and Council

Subject: Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS) Grant

Initiated By: Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services

________________________________________________________________________

Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and if

approved accept funds from the Columbus Health Department for a Metropolitan

Medical Response System Grant for equipment to outfit and retrofit support

vehicles deployed in support of the local Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force

4A based in Columbus, Georgia.

Background: Certain equipment is required to augment current capabilities for

two support vehicles that will deploy to support the mission of the Georgia

Search and Rescue Task Force 4A. The funding needed to acquire this equipment

is not provided for by the Georgia Search and Rescue grant, already accepted by

this City, and the MMRS grant will provide for the purchase of the equipment.

Analysis: This capability will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the

Metropolitan Medical Response System in the event of a major disaster or

catastrophe locally or regionally.

Financial Considerations: The grant amount requested is $10,639.08 for the

Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The City is not required to

provide matching funds to participate in this grant.

Legal Considerations: No applicable legal requirements.

Recommendation: Authorize a resolution to approve the City to submit an

application for, and if awarded, accept a grant from the Metropolitan Medical

Response System for Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services for equipment

to outfit and retrofit support vehicles deployed in support of the local

Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 4A based in Columbus, Georgia.
