A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Colonel Robert B. Nett of Columbus, recipient of the Medal of Honor,
will be recognized at a ceremony to be held on Sunday, March 25, 2007, Medal of
Honor Day at the Eternal Flame Monument;
WHEREAS, Colonel Nett is the remaining survivor of a group of five
individuals from Columbus to receive this prestigious honor;
WHEREAS, Medal of Honor recipients Major Freeman V. Horner, Major Charles L.
McGaha, Lt. Jackson Pharris and SP-4 Donald R. Johnson also called Columbus
home at one time;
WHEREAS, each of these Armed Forces members risked his life and went above and
beyond the call of duty while engaging in action against an enemy of the United
States;
WHEREAS, on December 14, 1944, Colonel Nett and members of his company engaged
in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy near Cognon, Leyte, Phillipines and
although the enemy stronghold was captured, Colonel Nett was severely wounded;
WHEREAS, as a result, President Harry S. Truman awarded the Medal of Honor to
Colonel Robert B. Nett;
WHEREAS, the remarkable courage and service of Colonel Robert B. Nett are
worthy of special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Colonel Robert B. Nett upon his recognition
on Medal of Honor Day, March 25, 2007. His service to his country and the
Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to Colonel Robert B. Nett.

20th day of March, 2007, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
