Memorandum

DATE: October 12, 2007

TO: Isaiah Hugley, City Manager

FROM: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager

City Manager?s Office

SUBJECT: AREAS REQUIRING FREQUENT WATER USAGE

________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________

Various City departments require frequent water usage as an essential function

of daily business. The Georgia EPD?s watering ban went into effect on

September 28 and exceptions are weighed heavily toward those people who make

their living using water. All other City departments will be restricted in

watering lawns, greenery or other such uses without the approval of the City

Manager?s Office until further notice.

Parks and Recreation Department:

Lakebottom Football Field & Fort Middle School Football Field: Both of these

fields have new sod on them and it?s critical that we keep watering them while

the grass is still growing.

A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium Football Field: Because of the football traffic,

chemicals must be applied each week with water in order to maintain the turf.

The Soccer Complex: Watering is necessary in order to maintain the centers on

the fields at the complex.

Watering these areas will be needed for the next 2-4 weeks depending upon the

weather in the near future. Recommend these areas be allowed to continue

watering.

Bull Creek and Oxbow Golf Courses:

Both Golf Courses are watering, as needed, particularly the greens. Since they

can use up to 100,000 gals. per day of water pumped from the pond, they can

actually water any part of the course they choose.

METRA Transit System:

Nine of twelve transit systems in Georgia are under no water restrictions.

Recommend that METRA be excluded from the watering ban since this is an

essential function in the transit industry.

Public Services Department:

Recommend that City vehicles be washed ONLY on Tuesday?s of each week. This

will ensure that Waste Vehicles are cleaned at least weekly to hold down the

odor of the household waste. This restriction will include emergency and

non-emergency vehicles as well.

Fire Department:

Stations are restricted from watering lawns and other greenery. No

restrictions on use of water to wash equipment at this time.
