The current term of office of Dr. James A. Lawrence on the Board of Health
will expire on December 31, 2009. This will be the end of his second
consecutive full term of office on the board since he was first put on the
board in 2000; therefore, he is not eligible to succeed himself for another
term of office.
Including Dr. Lawrence, there are currently three board members who
resides in Senatorial District 15. The other two board members reside in
Senatorial District 29.
There is currently one woman serving on the board.
Enclosed is a current listing of those board members and the data sheet on
this board.

COMPOSITION OF BOARD: Seven members, one of whom shall be the Mayor of
Columbus, one of which shall be the City Manager of Columbus and two of which

QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Must be residents of Columbus. See also, Sec.
2-3.02 (a) Col. Code for general qualifications of all boards.

Charge/Mission: This board is responsible for the operation of the Columbus
Department of Public Health. It has seven (7) members, two (2) of which must be
licensed and practicing physicians and three other citizens members, all of
which are appointed by the Columbus Council. The Mayor and the City Manager
serve in the other two positions by virtue of their titles. (GA Laws 1941, Page
